Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) on Friday launched investigations on police officers who took pictures and videos of students caught smoking bhang and allegedly having sex in a Nairobi-bound bus as they left school for the August holidays
IPOA Chairman Macharia Njeru confirmed they were greatly concerned about how the arrested students were handled in a humiliating manner against their constitutional rights.
The bus had been intercepted by police at a road block along Karatina-Nairobi road on Wednesday after concerned residents alerted police of the students’ misbehavior on the public bus.
The pictures taken by the police officers later went viral on social media with human rights activists threatening to go to court alleging a breach of constitutional rights of the schoolgirls.
