Police in Kilifi county are looking for a three-man gang who attacked a business lady in Kaloleni area late on Monday and made away with Ksh367,000 in cash.
Kilifi county police commander Douglas Kanja said the gang, armed with an AK47 rifle, accosted the employee of a Mombasa-based wholesale shop, who was supplying goods in Kaloleni, and took the money at gun point before they escaped on a motorbike.
The wholesale is known to supply several businesses in the area during the day, by its employees who then go round collecting the cash in the evening, a trend police say, may have been taken advantage of by the gang.
The victim, Nazra Maya, said the suspects attacked her just as she was winding up collection, pointing to the fact that they may have been watching her.
Police are now urging locals in the area to resort to cashless ways of transacting their business to avoid being vulnerable to robbers snooping for cash.
