Police in Mombasa on Tuesday shot and killed two suspected robbers after a an attempted break-in in Mombasa’s Nyali estate.
The two were part of a six-man gang that unsuccessfully tried to rob a business premise and a residential house along links road in Nyali, Kisauni police chief, Richard Ngatia, said.
“(The robbers) tied up local guards using ropes, but one of the guards managed to escape and informed police officers,” Ngatia said.
He said the registration number of the car the suspects were using was circulated, before it was stopped at a police road block along Nyali bridge.
“They jumped out and started running but two were shot,” Ngatia, said, adding that one suspect had died on the spot. Another is said to have died at the Coast General Hospital.
Police are looking for the other four who escaped, said Ngatia, and who they believe have been behind a spate of recent robberies in Nyali area in the recent days.
A police source told Baraka FM a pistol was recovered from one of the slain suspects.
