A 28 year old female German tourist was shot and killed by unknown gunmen in Mombasa on Thursday, at around the same area a Russian tourist was killed in the same style early in July, witnesses and police sources, said.
The tourist, identified as Christine Testa was in the company of a Ugandan male companion, and are said to have arrived in Mombasa that same Thursday from Nairobi.
The 1700hrs murder occurred at Kunze road, within Mlango wa papa in Mombasa’s Bondeni area, police sources said, adding that nothing was stolen from her.
Her Ugandan counterpart was admitted at the Coast general hospital with bullet wounds sustained during the incident.
“They were merely doing sightseeing of Old Town when three people emerged from behind and started shooting at them and killed the tourist on the spot. We have reports that the suspects who killed the Russian early this month, are the same ones who killed this German,” Khalid Ibrahim, Old Town chairman of Community Security, told journalists.
Sources said one of the assailants had a pistol and appeared from a corner, shot the tourist who was trying exchange foreign currency and escaped.
Pictures taken from the scene showed the tourist lying on her belly next to a trench, and was wearing a blue skirt with what appeared to be a black cardigan.
Early this month gunmen shot and killed a Russian tourist and wounded her colleague in Kibokoni, around the same area, and made away with their personal belongings including cash.
Police were yet to issue an official statement about the latest murder, which continues to add on the woes afflicting the country’s security, hurting tourism even further.
The killing of the German might complicate diplomatic relations between the Kenya and Germany, which was among the few Western countries that had not issued travel warnings on Kenya.
