A stray hyena attacked and killed four children in an incident that left many villagers shocked in Kalalani village, Tana River County early on Tuesday.
The attack which happened as villagers slept, left the children’s parents admitted in hospital with severe injuries as police confirmed to be a hyena assault.
Tana River police chief Sylvester Githungo arrived at the scene accompanied by Kenya Wildlife officials, and said they would launch a hunt for the hyena immediately.
“Three of the children wewe siblings belongings to one family while the fourth belonged to a nearby family,” Githungo said.
Later the same Tuesday two other people were wounded in another similar attack by what locals said was the same hyena.
Villagers accompanied police in looking for the beast and vowed to kill it on sight.
Bodies of the children were transported to Malindi district hospital mortuary.
